Ken,

The IBM i Editing perspective is part of the Softlanding RSE Extensions.  It's not present in RDP/RDi with only a base install.

You may be right about the change in fast views causing the blank perspective in 9.0.

Peter,

Note that RDI 9 is based on Newer Eclipse 4.2 versus the older RDP based on Eclipse 3.6.
So, the Eclipse frame work is different. You have to navigation for "Fast View" is different in this Eclipse. Still works, just different Navigation!
I played with RDI 9, and like it. It just took time to get use to navigation. You have to drag and drop your Views. You can no longer right click and select "DETACHED/FAST VIEW". To get a detached view, you have to drag the window off versus right-clicking and selecting "detached". No biggie!

Rational Developer is basically a plug-in for eclipse. (In simple terms...)

********************************

I have been trying to get fellow Rational Developers to install & try Rational Developer....

And for some reason, on the new installs, they do NOT even have the "IBM I Editing" perspective...

Which I like for a very simple starting perspective...

If you try to show a newbie dozens of "VIEWS", (Remote System, Outline View, Command Log, Error Log, Error List, spool, object table, etc.. ) they get over whelmed by the multiple views... <frown>

So, I am trying to back off, and start off simple. Just Edit & compile, for someone who has NEVER used an IDE before...

But, on new install, that perspective doesn't exist. I am talking about RDP vs. RDI...

The "IBM I" perspective is designed to be very minimal. I use it quite often, when I want to use view several source members in split screens...

By default, I think all the views are FAST VIEW, which is cool...
I reset my IBM i Editing perspective, and the source takes full screen, while all the other view are minimized and fast view.

But, newbies installing RDP 8, don't even have a perspective called "IBM I Editing".

I wonder if there is a way to install this perspective: "IBMI i Editing"???

For unknown reasons, somethings work on one person PC, but not another. Very frustrating!
I check the Error log, but cannot determine why somethings do NOT work. Overall, they are minor. Such as the IBM I Editing Perspective does NOT show up. <frown> Newbie do NOT want to report issue, they just want to use high quality working IBM product! <Big Grin>
