Hi,

I had an issue with local Help in that it rarely found any pages. Just left me with a blank contents page, and if I closed it there would be a rogue eclipse process left behind in task manager.

The "RdI v9" post from Darren@xxxxxxxxx (26th June) about TCP/IP timeouts didn't mention help at all, but I followed his advice to "prefer" IPv4 with "-Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true" in the eclipse.ini file (repeating a note from Mike Hockings: http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21610148). Since then I have had no issues with the local help in RDP apart from a slight delay waiting for the text to be loaded. My theory was that the local help was timing out without error messages because eclipse was trying to find it using IPv6 (it uses a local web server to deliver the help pages) - I seem to have been right, but it's just anecdotal evidence at the moment.

YMMV

-Paul.

Darren,

Ya - I have tried that route too. Internet access disabled, local enabled,
still won't work. At one time when I had both 8.5 and 9.0 up at the same
time, and I could connect to the server. Now neither seem to work.

understand the Help>Local Help Updater. It says I have nothing on the
right "installed" column, yet I had plenty of help installed after I
swapped the enabled/disabled options in preferences.

RDi 9.0 installed along side 8.5. Used an existing 8.5 to create my 9.0
workspace.

When installed I told the installer that I wanted local help.

It does not work, and is pointed to a directory that does not exist.

When I go to Windows > preferences > Help > Content I enable the Local
content. When I test the connection, it fails. I can use the internet
version, but I am not fond of the slower response time it takes to show
help.

I changed the Local Help Updater watched folder to one that I created in
the SPD folder that was created as part of the install of 9.0. It was
pointed to a SPD folder that did not exist on this PC, and one that was
most likely valid when I ported 8.5 to this new PC.

When I enable the local help, then go to Help > Local Help Updater I get a
message that says:

"A connection to the Local Help Updater cannot be established. Save all
your work, restart the application, and then retry to update your help
content"

I have taken those steps several times, but keep getting the same response.

Anyone that can point me in the right direction to get the local help
working?

Jim
