Greyed out means the view is already on the screen.

on the bottom left there is a show view as fast view icon and a remote
systems icon. This one works.

There it is! If you want it always displayed (not a fast view), don't
click the Remote Systems icon: drag it to a place on the screen where
you like it. If you have some views on the screen taking up space and
wish they were fast views, right click the view's tab and select Fast View.

I was doing some debugging yesterday and now today, I can barely find my
way around. I often have difficulty trying to switch from debug back to
lpex editor to fix the mistakes debug has uncovered. I often just close
RDI and re-start

There's a way to reset the perspective to the way it came originally:
Window > Reset Perspective...

There's a lot to be said for flexibility, but I'm hitting the downside
of flexibility. I can't find stuff and I don't know why.

Here's what I do. I choose the IBM i Editing perspective (Window > Open
Perspective > Other > IBM i Editing). I move everything around the way
I like it. Then I save it as my own perspective (Window > Save
Perspective As...). Then in the future, I only open up and use my own
perspective which I cleverly name buck_edit_rpg. I do the same thing
with the Debug perspective with the equally clever name buck_debug_rpg.

Then I tell RDp to use my debug perspective. Window > Preferences >
Run/Debug > Perspectives. Find IBM i:Debug Interactive Application (on
the right) and click on it. There's a drop down further to the right
labelled [Debug]. There, select your debug perspective (for me, it's
buck_debug_rpg). I have done the same thing for all the entries that
say IBM i: Debug xxxxxxx.

Finally, tell RDp how you prefer to see the perspectives open and close.
Go to ...Run/Debug > View Management and check the debug perspectives
you like to have RDp open and close for you. I have Debug and
buck_debug_rpg selected.

Hope this helps.
