I don't know if things have changed in RDP, but in WDSCi, the compile option is
sensitive to the active focus. If the focus is in the outline or any view other
than the editor, compile doesn't work. Neither does verify or other
source-specific functions. Again, this could be different in RDP, since I don't
have it to try.

Yes that's how it's supposed to work, but..
I have noticed the same thing that the OP did.
Sometimes it seems I click on compile too fast and RDP hasn't caught up with the
save being done.
In those cases, I just do what the op did and click back into the source long
enough for RDP to remember that the save finished.

The Compile option is disabled while the source member is being saved.
Once the save is complete, the option is then enabled.
