Hi Jerry,

As of 8.5 the default outline view is a "live" outline which updates on
every keystroke. We have been busy building a new parser that can do this
live parsing and handle all the complex features that our beloved RPG has
accumulated over the years. Unfortunately we did not have everything
parsed by the ship date for 8.5 and embedded SQL is one of the things we
don't handle yet. The preferences page that the menu takes you to, has a
check box you can uncheck for 'Update the Outline view when text is changed
in the editor' which will give you back the old outline view. I
encourage you to use the new outline view as much as possible and give us
feedback so that we can make it much better than the old and boost your
productivity.

Subject: Re: [WDSCI-L] RDi 8.5 javaw.exe instability issue - next
question regarding SQLRPGLE and Outline view
Sent by: wdsci-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx

Thanks everyone for the input.

I took the time to uninstall and reinstall RDP V8.5 and created my own root
level directory and installed everything that gave me the option to browse
to an install directory into it.

Hopefully this will resolve the instability issue with java.

But one thing I just noticed, and I don't recall if it was an issue before
I reinstalled is that if I have an SQLRPGLE source member open for update
or read, the outline doesn't work. It it entirely empty and the only icon
that allows activity is the icon to open preferences. If I open an RPGLE
source member, in the same workspace, the outline appears automatically and
all it's functions are available and work as expected.

Anyone else have this issue? Any known solutions?
