Thanks for the responses. I should be able to get this approved.

Subject: Re: [WDSCI-L] upgrading from WDSC

As David mentions, RDp is built on Eclipse...so there's some built in Java functionality and there's always plugins...

However, WDSC 7 had some extra IBM provided web functionality, to get that again, you'd need the "for i SOA construction" or "Power Tools for IBM i"
http://www-01.ibm.com/software/awdtools/rdproductline/compare.html#dtab2N1020F

And yes, WDSC 7 doesn't support the new in IBM i 6.1 or 7.1 RPG bifs or opcodes.

We are currently using WDSC 7.0. I am going to try and get my boss to approve a move to RDP.

We are a 2 person shop and do most development in RPGLE, CL. However we do a small amount of Java. Mostly to retrieve data from Access tables.
We are on 6.1 and not likely to move for another year or so to 7.1

Is RDP the only product I need? I thought Java was in a separate offering, but I don't see it. Something like RDP SOI.

Can I do the Java from Eclipse? Meaning develop java programs that hit the I and access?

It appears there are a couple of ways to license RDP? Any recommendations on this?

Is there anything that's not available in SEU that is available in RDP
to really push this move(ie validation for new opcodes, etc)

Thanks for any input

Mike
