Hi Paul

My inclination is to leave all the original source dates as they are - for me, it's not a change to the source so much as a re-casting. Of course, it depends on just how vigorous the changes are - if it's line-by-line as the RDp one is, I'd leave the dates - use the new dates for the /free, etc. Reason is, I do use the date quite a bit for comparisons, and having it all reset makes that impossible.

Now Craig also has a utility for making prototypes wherever they're appropriate - CALLs and CALLBs, especially. That's very cool, and those should get a new date - at least in the prototypes.

We all have differing requirements, of course - this is JMHO.

On Vern's and Jon's advice to my previous mail about /FREE conversion, I also looked at JCRcmds. I haven't pushed it too far yet, as time is money, but I have looked at the source that comes with it and it does look as though it is possible (and maybe relatively easy) to maintain the source change date with a hack or two in the JCR5FREER program.

Currently, the JCR program will set the source change date to zero for every line in the source file, which is a bit inconvenient because, like MichaelQuigley, we feel that the /FREE conversion *should* change the date of source lines changed while retaining the dates of lines that weren't changed.

Craig Rutledge has tools for doing the conversion - he provides source - you might be able to make that work.

I think it's www.jcrcmds.com but not sure - we posted his link recently.

One of my programmers asked the following regarding using WDSCi:

"When converting to free form, is there anyway to keep the date from
updating on the source lines?
Some kind of setting change perhaps?"

My answer was "Good question and I don't know."

Two other programmers responded they didn't know of any way to prevent
the line date from changing.

Does anyone know if this can be done?

Thanks, Jerry
