That would make sense. Thanks for the explanation.

If you open a member without first "starting" a connection, it has to do
that the first time you open something. For example, I regularly keep the
Remote Systems view minimized. In this state, the connection is not started
immediately at startup as I suppose there is no need for it. As soon as I
either display the Remote Systems view OR open a member, the connection is
started and takes 8-10 seconds or so. Opening a member after that takes
about 2-3 seconds, most of which is Eclipse overhead and loading the outline
and the caches (or whatever it's doing).

A follow up on this issue from my perspective...it does appear slower
opening a source member in the latest version of RDP (8.0.3). It took close
to 15 seconds to open up a source member with about 1,200 lines of code.
Previously this took only about three to five seconds. However the second
member I opened was quicker. I'm wondering if there is some initial
"handshaking" going on behind the scenes that suddenly is lagging for some
reason.

I know 8.0.0.2 had issues with saving - that's the only spot I'm aware of
that version being slower (and it was horribly slow - like I could go to the
green screen and compile the program before the save finished -slow).

8.0.0.3 fixed the saving speed.

Not sure if that helps, although the point may be moot if you can't get the
license for RDp.

Slower compared to which version.

I thought 8.0.2 was slower that WDSc 7 and I seem to recall someone saying
it was due to a change put in to better lock members.

I have not been able to try 8.0.3 because my demo copy expired and I
haven't got my license keys yet. But I hope it isn't as slow as 8.0.2.

Is it just me or do source members seem to open slower in 8.0.3 ? :-)
