In my continued "Adventures in Debug", I ran across a peculiar issue with the Automated Step Into button. Through the drop down on this, you can change the timing of the Current Pace, Speed Up/Slow Down By, and Maximum Pace values, in milliseconds. Almost all debug sessions I have initiated have been slow; that is, the number of lines it will step through never seems to be faster than two lines a second. I had the setting on all three values to 100ms, which I would believe would be about ten lines a second. Still, it would step through at about two lines a second.

Then this afternoon, something wonderful yet unexplained happened. On one of my initiations, suddenly it was like my debug session was on steroids! It started scrolling through rapidly during debug. There were the occasional split second stalls, likely due to file operations, but it was quite consistent in keeping that fast pace. It looked like it was at the pace of 10 lines per second, which would match the timing settings!

The only problem is that, at a later time (when I end then restart RDP), it's back to its old behavior. Why is this? What could be causing this to happen where most debug sessions are at a snail's pace despite the timing settings? If this could be explained, it would be soooooo nice to be able to sit back and watch the show. I do admit, I like this feature!

Also, and this may not be possible to address, when doing an Automated Step, you can't be working on anything else; control of your Windows sessions always reverts back to RDP on each step. Annoying, but then you should probably be focusing on your automated debug anyway...
