Why put a query tool in the IDE?

Or should that not be there either?

If the query tool is there for script development, I can see where
it'd be nice to have VE also. As it is, most of my development is in
Run SQL scripts, then copied and pasted into WDSC, simply because the
query tools in WDSC don't provide access to VE.

Absolutely not.

I rely on Visual Explain to help me get the best performance out of
the SQL we have in our products. I'm glad we DON'T have DBAs - it
lets me get to the bottom of things faster.

That's fine ... you use the right tool for the job.

IMO: Putting a database performance analysis tool in a IDE is putting it in the wrong place.
