RD Power 7.5 costs the same as RDi 7.5. The confusion is likely around
authorized vs floating user licenses. Authorized user licenses are the
traditional type that we always had in RDi. RD Power has both authorized
and floating user licenses. Floating user licenses are more appealing in
situations where there is a large number of developers that only
periodically do development. Or if there are development teams that span
timezones. Floating user licenses costs more because they can be shared by
multiple developers (but only one at a time).
Any current RDi users that are current on software maintenance are
entitled (no-charge) to RD Power. Phil, because you purchased last October
you would still be under software maintenance (the orginal purchase
includes 1 yr of maintenance). If you ordered through passport advantage
then you should be able to signon and see it in your entitled software
list there. If your partner ordered through eConfig / AAS then they need
to order RD Power (5733-RDP) using the no charge upgrade feature code
0004.
Almost all IBM software prices are now posted on the corresponding product
web pages. For RD Power go to:
http://www-01.ibm.com/software/rational/products/rdp/
Then click on Ready to Buy and it lists the parts and prices.
If your partner has any questions or problems ordering it have them send
me an email or give me a call.
Is RDP 7.5 the same product as RDi 7.5?
From an IBM i point of view, yes. Think of RD Power 7.5 as the next
release of RDi (ignore the fact that they have the same versions numbers).
The differences between the two is that RD Power will also have support
for C/C++ and COBOL on AIX in the future. Hence the change from "for i" to
"for Power Systems Software".
