It has been proven over and over by study after study that using two
monitors with more real estate or just one very large monitor is far more
productive. Just using two screens compared to 1 will give you anywhere
from 25%-40% more prductivity, NO MATTER WHAT YOU ARE DOING!.

So ask your employer this... Is a 25% increase in my productivity worth
$140? Seriously... for two 19" monitors on Newegg you can get them both
from $230. That is probably about a day's wage.

Some employers can't see the forest from the trees. Its a tiny expense
(investment) for major gains.

Re: [WDSCI-L] 86 lines of code

Is this just the american way of doing things bigger than everyone else?
How does one convince one's employer that 2 19" monitors are economically
viable? Are most people developping this way or are they using one screen
only?

I must admit, it sounds like luxury. When I look across at my coworker who
uses only SEU: he flips between 5 sessions, each window is reduced in size
to the equivalent of an 11" screen so he can also see his desktop. So fat
chance I have of ever getting Rdi and dual montiors.

Oh yea.... and I have dual 19" widscreen monitors. If they
were 22's I'd get my 100 lines. :D

[WDSCI-L] 86 lines of code

The main advantage of RDi over PDM/SEU is in the time to
analyze a program and produce code. If you can see 86 lines
of code (in my setup) at a time in RDi(WDSC) versus only 19
in SEU then I don't know how you can ignore the productivity
gains that gives you.

Bryce, what are your preferences set at? I only have 51 lines and I
haven't found another setting that is easy on the eye. My
screen is only
17", I think.

Another comparaison with the number of lines : I find that
greenscreeners
are less likely to use long names in their code. So you tend
to get a lot
more comment lines, thus amplifying even more the difference.
They may be
lazy about writing subprocedures as that slows them down. I still
sometimes use SEU for a quick look at something, but it has
to be really
quick because often I have to page and page before finding any code!
