The internal search function is temporarily non-functional. The current search engine is no longer viable and we are researching alternatives.
As a stop gap measure, we are using Google's custom search engine service.
If you know of an easy to use, open source, search engine ... please contact support@midrange.com.
I don't think it would be a fair benchmark since whichever one you code in
first could be slower. Once you've done it once you take a lot of the
thinking out of it. That is where WDSC gives you the gains. I can type
fast in any editor. This email client for instance. I can type about as
fast as I can talk... ok, a little bit slower, but certainly not much (I
was a real nerd in school and took 3 typing classes so that I could
program faster :D ) anywho... The real benefit from using WDSC over SEU
is being able to see and analyze more of the problem at hand and quicker
because of having a greater picture of what is going on.
You can see the outline view, plus at least 3 times as many lines of code,
plus multiple screens of code at once, plus plus plus.... and the list can
go on. There is a holistic view that needs to be taken when looking at
the productivity gains in WDSC vs SEU. And I say WDSC and not LPEX
because the outline is not an LPEX thing, its a WDSC view. That is what
makes it so more productive. SEU doesn't have the outline view, among
other things. It certainly doesn't have snippets :D Just putting my
standard comment blocks that separate different parts of my code such as
constants, variables, procedures, copybooks, etc into snippets I save
probably 5 minutes per source member because I don't have to type out all
of them myself, and they are then guarenteed to be standard across all my
code.
Ok, this is long enough.
Happy Thursday all. I hope you are in too rough of shape after the big
St. Patty's Day. I hope you all had some bangers and mash!
Thanks

[WDSCI-L] Any tidbits?
I had this idea which had nothing to do with cobol so I started this new
thread. Seasoned users of Rdi or dual monitor owners won' be impressed but
I like it and I hope it will lead to me learning new stuff from other
contributors.
Just went back to using the outline view again. I'd given up as my PC used
to be a P4 at 1.6gHz with 600Mb. However, using the outline meant double
clicking on the LPEX window to put it back to its original size in order
to see the outline view. Then I discovered Fast view:
Click right on outline view tab and select fast view. Then maximise your
LPEX window with a double-click. Each time you want the outline, just
click the fast view.
A question : anyone ever gone to the trouble of writing the same code in
SEU and RDi and comparing the time needed just to type?
