Pete,

This happens sometimes when doing an new installation, and you look for
internet updates at the same time. What seems to happen is IM downloads
the updates without first installing the base package, which includes
the eclipse JVM. I always defer updates until after the product is
completely installed....

As I recall, the entire installation directory must be deleted and the
install started from scratch.

Hth,
-Eric DeLong

And I assume that a JDK is installed? Is the Java program being
blocked perhaps?

When I launch the IBM Installation Manager, I receive a window titled
IBMM. In it is the following:

A Java Runtime Environment (JRE) or Java Development Kit (JDK)
must be available in order to run IBMM. No Java virtual machine
was found after searching the following locations:
C:\Program Files\IBM\Installation
Manager\eclipse\jre_5.0.3.sr8a_20080811b\jre\binj9vm\jvm.dll

It is the same message that I get after re-launching the launchpad
application.
