The internal search function is temporarily non-functional. The current search engine is no longer viable and we are researching alternatives.
As a stop gap measure, we are using Google's custom search engine service.

I agree with Kelly 100%. 90% or more of our business would be slowed down
if we moved everything to web pages. That's a BAD thing to do!

We have users that need to enter large amounts of data in short amounts
of time. They don't even look at the screens when they enter the data.
These users love the speed of the 5250 green screens.
I don't think browser pages can ever match 5250 screens for speed. The
addition of a web server tier and the necessity of painting each new
page adds a little time, and that little amount of time can add up for
heads-down data entry folks.
However, I also don't think high speed data entry should be used to
justify keeping all users on 5250 screens. I wish IBM modernization
efforts would not focus on switching from green screens to browser
pages. Both UIs have a place in modern business practices. Modernization
should be having the ability to create the right UI for the right job.

I think the fact that the GUI development tools are so much more
productive than the green screen tools really highlights the advantages
a properly conceived GUI can bring over a green screen. If these
benefits can be realized for the developers, why can't they be realized
for the business community?

I occasionally struggle with the paradox that I feel the need to develop
in
WDSC/RDi, but I'm using it to develop 5250 applications. I mean, if I
need
GUI, then don't my application users? I think its not that I need GUI,
but
that I need something better than SEU.
