The internal search function is temporarily non-functional. The current search engine is no longer viable and we are researching alternatives.
As a stop gap measure, we are using Google's custom search engine service.
If you know of an easy to use, open source, search engine ... please contact support@midrange.com.
The details are...
We made a copy of STRPDM and changed the program the command calls and the first thing you see is a screen from our app asking if you want to check out the source or just look at it. If you want to change it you have to enter what you plan on doing (aka project number) and then our app makes a backup copy of the current source just by doing a CPYF (we keep 9 previous versions) to a different QRPGSRC file. Who has it checked out is then recorded in a database. If someone else tries to open the source they are told that the code is checked out and by whom and for what reason. When the programmer checks the source back in it is implemented.

We use MKS Implementer. It works.
Without knowing more details on what you're currently doing, I can only
guess how easy it would be to port. If all you're using are some PDM user
options, then yes, although interactive screens may require some rethinking.
If it's fancier than that, it depends. I should think it would be possible,
though.

Subject: [WDSCI-L] Survey of RDi users related to Source Code management
Due to budget constraints, we wrote our own extension on SEU that would
flag source code as being changed and who had it checked out and
automatically make backup copies of source when it was checked out. We
also do some reporting off the data collected during the check in/out
process for how many apps were changed over some time period. Not a full
change management system along the lines of Aldon but sufficient for our
small shop. We have not made the move to RDi yet, partially because these
SEU extensions we added will not work in RDi. If you are using RDi, what
source code management tools are you using or have you looked at? Would it
even be possible to write our own extensions to RDi that could do the same
as we currently do in SEU?
