Doug Mack spoke at our LUG about DB2 for Web Query last year and pointed out that Query/400 (QU1) was, somehow, embedded in the new product. That is, one could still run any old queries that were hanging around or even, if I recall correctly, convert those to the new query product.

I do not, however, hearing him or anyone at COMMON, when I talked about it with IBM at the Expo, saying anything about it being required for V6R1. Now it may be, that with V6R1 Query/400 is no longer available as a separate product, but that, I would think (no direct knowledge or links), would/should only apply to new systems being shipped with V6R1. That is, I would think that QU1 (Query/400) would run under V6R1 sans QU2 as long as one had a license key.

And, in any case, I would not think that QU2 would be required for V6R1. That is, if one had, say, Sequel, why would one want/need QU2?

Anyway, this is just academic here. We'll probably move off of V5R4 to V6R1 (or whatever is the latest at the time) whenever I get out from under this backlog. But, changes to the SWMA costs such as this and the compilers/tools might make my (reasonably) penny-pinching boss defer.

Hi Jerry,

From what I can determine (and I have nothing at all to do with QRY but
like playing with Google :) is that the 5722QU1 product is now contained
in the newer 5733QU2 product.

The quote
"The new product, known as IBM DB2 Web Query for System i (DB2 Web
Query), is IBM’s strategic replacement product for Query/400. "

Couldn't get the pdf up this morning, but the Technical Document, of
course, points to the new DB2 Web Query product. Which still begs the
question of Why? it is required in order for Shannon to get V6R1.

I did the Google thing on QU1 and found these links that might be
informative ...

Shannon,

I thought (sometimes I get in trouble for doing that) that QU2 was the new
Query product that IBM released last year. I.e., the "replacement for
5722QU1.

Don't know if this information is too late for the cost question or not...

But I just got the following quote from my BP for my 520 (I already have
SWMA, this is just to extend it for another year)

One year SWMA = $1313.38
QU2 = $480.00 (required by IBM to get V61...don't even know what it
is....)
RDi = $795.00

Total = $2588.38

Not for IBM i users Joe. There is no charge for the new version of
Studio. If you don't

So I guess technically, PHP is indeed free. You can install a slower,
less capable version with web-only support and no Eclipse IDE for
free.

As I noted above, the Eclipse-based Studio IDE is free for i users.
Even if it wasn't you could always use the PHPEclipse or PDT plug-ins.

In fairness - shouldn't one also point out that for deployment
purposes the only "free" IBM supported application server is also
"less capable"? (I don't know about slower so I can't comment).
