Nick, have you gone through the tutorials from Jon Sayles? He has lots of good stuff on his website, including a tutorial on calling RPG programs from EGL written by Claus Weiss. I call RPG programs all the time; in fact, I asked very politely (over and over) to have a STATEFUL call added so that you can call programs over and over - it works really well.

I haven't tried a service program yet, so I can't give you much help with that. Since EGL uses IBM's Java toolbox, there are some limitations, IIRC - you can actually probably scan the midrange list and look for toolbox and service program to find some threads on that topic.
