You can disable this IM update checking by de-selecting the checkbox "Search service repositories during installation and updates.".
Then IM won't check for any update. Note that the product's update may specify a higher level of IM. In such a case, you'll be prompted
to update IM.

I was more asking why people would regularly update their WDSC. You have to remember, I'm a green screen dinosaur, and I apply PTFs once a quarter - checking for WDSC updates on a weekly basis is a different concept.
