Wait, so now that I've adopted WDSC I have to pay for the next version?
I could understand having to pay for SWMA but not having to completely
re-purchase it.

I know there previously wasn't a line item that specifically said WDSC
on the configurations, but since it was included in WDS it was certainly
paid for. Forcing users to re-purchase it entirely is lame.
Yes it is, and we brought it to IBM's attention. In fact, we explained that it was in their best interests to give people an upgrade path for those still stuck in the green screen. I think Susan originally proposed that concept, and I went so far as to say they should actually charge more for ADTS than for RDi, thus giving people an incentive to move to the new tools as they become comfortable.

By providing an upgrade path, you can start with ADTS licenses and then convert them to RDi as your staff expertise grows. Then it will be up to individual programmers to justify their choice of toolset.

And IBM agrees; it's just that the wheels were already in motion for TUG. The truth is that you're going to see some changes in the program over the coming months, some based I hope directly on the input they got last week.

If anybody has names & email addresses of people at IBM to specifically
write to I would love to send them my thoughts.
Hey, drop a note to George Farr himself. George is hugely invested in the future of our paltform, and he's still one of the great friends of the community, even if he has gone over to the Dark Side <grin>.
