Joe,

If EGL is going to be part of a chargeable version or at least a higher
charge than the base, why would I want to learn it? I mean it is going
to be a struggle to get the money for the existing developers for SEU
and RDi (formerly known as WDSc) so why thrown in an additional amount
based on the fact the "I would like to try it out"? or have I
completely missed the boat?

Hopefully with the new pricing for RDi, some type of EGL will be
included (again).

EGL is part of RDi-SOA, not part of the base RDi. RDi-SOA contains all
the web-based tooling, including things like WebFacing/HATS and all that
other good stuff. The pricing hasn't been set in stone, but it's
definitely going to be more than RDi. The incremental price is what
you're going to have to fight with IBM about.

I gave IBM my two cents, and I'm hopeful that there will be some relief,
at least for people wanting to try the product out. But the Rational
team wants money for the web tooling and they're going to charge for it.
The good news from my standpoint is that you don't need a lot of EGL
developers in any given shop. If your business logic is sitll primarily
RPG, you can use RDi to build powerful web pages and call your RPG code.
The web pages design is actually fairly trivial, as is the code to call
RPG.
