I was intrigued by the topic.
I have been trying to use WDSCi on and off for a few years now.
I am starting to find I use WDSCi more and more.
Why.
1. I finally figured out how to prevent a new line being generated
every time I press enter.
(Windows/Preferences/LPEX Editor/User Key actions
then I map Enter to action 'home'.)
2. The Outline view is what I really use. The ease with which I can find
usages of fields, subroutines etc. is addictive.
(Pity the outline does not find SQL usages)
3. The Find-All Function is a poor mans outline and I use it to trace
SQL statements
4. I use Table view for when I am generally viewing source, but when I
need to group a set of sources, PF DSPF RPG CL etc I construct a filter,
it nicely keeps all components of a project together. I destroy the filter
when the Project is complete. I used to think filters to be useless
constructs.
5. Debug is magic, but I cannot use it for old OPM programs.
So I have converted the RPG source to RPGLE and this was not a trival
exercise. The CLs I have not converted to CLLE as I do not have a clear
concept of the implications of doing so.
6. I have finally figured out how to config my PC so that I
can Edit DBCS source ( JP and CN as well as SBCS US) without needing to
switch to or restart anything.
Why I still use SEU
I use SQL a lot because Verify does not seem to find SQL issues.
Verify does not seem to know the difference between modules and programs.
(I set ALL my RPG sources to be SQLRPGLE and this may be an issue.)
So I still use SEU to compile and to fix compilation errors.
Another reason I use SEU is I find the Iseries Command Log
very cumbersome. I am slowly learning Remote Shell and I hope I can
get similar function to QCMD via the QSHELL.
How can we help.
I saw a reference to Wiki in one of the posts.
I am not conversant with Wiki but I use it to find stuff. I find
nothing re WDSCi on Wikipedia. I dont know what I could put on Wiki
without infringing someones rights.
If the Wiki had WDSCi and within that a Tips section I could add
my 1cents worth to it.

Yep, I hear the same thing, but when I walk by I still see SEU. People
WANT to be more productive. People WANT to use new stuff. People WANT
to be cool, current and happy. We on this list see people trickle in,
trying WDSC - they WANT to try it, they ARE trying it, but it's not
meeting their expectations.
How can we as a community help them? That's a serious question, not a
cynical blow-off.
Excellent question. This goes well with Joe Pluta who mentions that his
classes generally do well as they are shown the way to do the things
they need.
The Netbeans folks frequently do video demos (showing their screen with
voice over explaining what we see) of their new things so people can SEE
what happens instead of just being told in words in a tutorial.
Perhaps a few cases of common tasks with such commentaries would be
immensely valuable as visual tutorials where you can always go back and
see how it was done?
