Speaking as a vendor of a SCM productt for the System i ... you should
keep in mind that change control on the iSeries / System i means more
than just keeping track of your source changes.
1. Source control (naturally).
2. Object control (rebuilding objects, when required, as they move from
development to QA to Production).
3. Data retention (when moving data objects into QA and Production).
4. Promotion control (making sure all required objects move at the same
time, including those not explicitly changed [to avoid level checks &
such]).
5. Error recovery (the ability to roll back a fix that was implemented
in error or had bugs that need to be backed out).
6. In some environments (usually enterprise level), keeping track of the
reason for the change (SOX, auditing, etc).
