Buck:

Nice idea... problem is we use reference files.

Guess I could build a program to create a source file member with the input
data I need.

Then pop it open and do what you suggest.

What I really want is to extend the editor and only have to push a couple of
buttons. One to get the data, the other to output the formatted records.

Seems to me that WDSc should have CODESRV functionality the way CODE/400
does.

I'm surprised no one else misses it......

John

Anyone have a different idea on how to
import a file field definition list
into the editor (without having to
leave the WDSc environment)?

I open the DDS and use the rectangle copy/paste.

1) use keystroke recorder to create a bunch of d* (comments) -- you'll
avoid syntax errors

2) copy over the field names from the DDS
3) copy over the lengths from the DDS
4) use keystroke recorder to stuff 's' for standalone into the right
column.
5) use keystroke recorder or rectangle replace to uncomment the d specs.

This is one of those deals where I wish I knew enough Java to write a teeny
plug-in to automate all this.
