Thanks.I think I get that. What was throwing me is that the error message is a little generic. It *should* say "This feature is only supported with the IBM JRE used when the eclipse runtime is installed from WDSc." The way the message reads now gives the end user the impression that a higher or lower JRE is needed, not that a JRE from a different manufacturer is needed.
I am OK that only an IBM JRE can be used and that it only can be installed as part of WDSc as long as it is BWC to Sun's. My whole level of excitement in the 7.0 release of WDSc was that I could stop maintaining two different versions of Eclipse.
I'll try installing MyEclipse on top of WDSc and see what happens. Pete Chenghui Li wrote:
Pete, if you choose to extend an existing Eclipse, the supported JRE version is V5 (V1.5) only. If this JRE is from Sun, then because some of the components that WDSC depends on don't support this Sun JRE V1.5, only the RSE component of WDSC are available. The JRE installed is 1.5.0_10 but when I changed to a different JRE (1.4.2_10), it wouldn't allow me to install at all, saying the at least 1.5 or higher was required.So the question is: WHAT version of JRE are the other components relying on and how do I tell the installer that I want it to use that version for my eclipse installation? Does it read a configuration file in eclipse or does it scan the available JRE's and choose the most recent one?
