I don't know for certain, but I *think* it's a Vista support issue. See the following from the archives: http://archive.midrange.com/wdsci-l/200702/msg00176.html and http://archive.midrange.com/wdsci-l/200702/msg00179.html *If* I'm right, that would probably indicate where IBM is willing to invest development dollars. CODE being 'old' technology would take some work to move to Vista. WDSC is based on Eclipse which IBM doesn't have to do everything to move to Vista. Hence, it gets carried forward. Don't get me wrong. This really bugs me, but at it always helps me when I try to see some reason for something I don't like. Of course this still gives *no* explanation as to why the new screen designer is only available in the advanced edition.
I really don't have a problem with them dropping CODE as long as they replace the function without trying to rip us off, and I understand that Vista support may be a show stopper for it. That wasn't what I meant, though. The 'technical issue' that I was speculating about (most unclearly, of course) is the decision to put the designer in the Advanced Edition. Is it possible that it uses some components that are currently only shipped in the AE? Since it's a 'technology preview', maybe they just couldn't justify restructuring the product at this time. Of course, the Application Diagram isn't a preview, so that doesn't bode well for them seriously considering changing it, if that is the issue. This is only speculation of course. I can't even take credit for the idea - it was one of my coworkers who suggested it. Dave Shaw Mohawk Industries
