Yes I did mean prompt !
I'm not sure about the cache. I'm still on V5.1.

I'm clearing the cache by Window, Preferences, Remote systems, iseries,
cache. I clear this cache quite regularly. Is there another cache ?
I notice that in this panel, there are options for caching CL help and
prompts. Is this anything to do with my problem?

Depending on the command (ie how many parameters) and whether or not its
already cached can affect how fast the prompted command appears.
Try the following to see if it improves things:
1) Clear your cache (not the file cache, but the communication cache)
2) Shutdown and restart the workbench  (we already have a requirement to
eliminate this part of the clear cache process :-)  )
3) Try prompting again.

Commands like SAVOBJ, which have numerous parameters, will take longer to
prompt than simpler commands like ADDLIBLE, which has only a few
parameters.
