What we currently do is have a table with the program names and from and to file names and call a CL to enter in the source name, library, object library and program type and the compile statement is built on the fly with the proper overrides. Since that is an interactive program I can't do that in RSE. Is there some way to emulate this?
You could create a CMD object as a front-end to the CL, and use the User Action functionality of RSE to call that CMD from RSE. This is similar to a PDM option. You could also call the command directly from the iSeries Commands Log. If the CL uses a DSPF, you would have to modify the CL to not use the DSPF, or create a non-display version. This gets around the interactive restriction because RSE has the ability to retrieve the prompt info for a CMD and present it as a dialogue for you to fill out. If the parameters are uniquely determined by the library, source file and member name, you can also have the User Action automatically pass those values to your CMD, just like a PDM option.
