How to display list of fields from multiple files

I am currently using the table view to display a list of fields from a
file, and this works fine (other than not being able to arrange the
fields in the table).  But, I want to load up several files and have
them available via a quick click or keyboard shortcut.  I was hoping I
could get several tabs for the various files, but so far I can only get
one table view open at once.  Is there any way to keep multiple table
views open at the same time; or alternately, another method of
displaying the fields in a file that would allow multiple files?
