Hello,
Maybe you can help me with a small confusion we have here regarding
which product should be installed. We have an installation where we work
on a CVS repository for Web Development, no iSeries work there. On the
other hand, some developers are using the IDE just to develop iSeries
code and no Java or JSP stuff.

I remember Mr. Pluta wrote an article (Weaving Websphere: Rationalizing
the IBM Development Tools) that had a nice picture that explained the
relationships between the products before and after Rational. Pretty
clear and simple.

Basically, what I got from the article was: Rational Web Developer is
the basic product. If does not have EJB support, it does not have
iSeries support. If you put the iSeries components is called WDSC, if on
top of that you add the EJB support, you have WDSC/AE. It was actually
simple and understandable.

But, when you get the discs from IBM and you install the software you
end up having:

-Rational Web Developer (Which we know, is the basic stuff, right? No
EJB, no iSeries)
-Rational Software Developer Platform (Which I have seen has also
support for iSeries!, but does it need anything else? Is it missing some
components?)
-Websphere Development Studio Client (Which is the one iSeries
developers should install. Based on what I got from the article)

So, some of our developers are using RSDP and some WDSC. Are they the
same?
Thank you very much for your answers in advance.
Martin

The problem is that RAD does NOT have all the features of WDSC. RAD
does not have, for instance, the Remote Systems Explorer, which is
pretty much the backbone of all iSeries functionality in WDSC.

On the other hand, WDSC standard edition does not have all the features
of RAD. It is built on RWD, and as such is missing things like full EJB
support and ClearCase integration.

>From a common sense perspective, it would SEEM that installing WDSC
standard edition on top of RAD or vice versa would get you what would in
effect be WDSC advanced edition, but I don't know that for sure. Common
sense is not always a reasonable guide in these situations.
