Also note that the development partition is currently running with
performance degraded as the 2757 cache battery is dead. (To be replaced
tomorrow)

We have noticed a difference during compiles and promotes via our CMS.

I could understand if the download of the WDSC6 updates took a bit
longer than normal, but I would expect any communication between the PC
and the server once the updates were downloaded.

That doesn't seem to be the case however.

We ended the update, and now the web server is responding normally. The
main web page comes up, as do our CGI programs.

Interestingly, while the update process was stalled and after trying to
start one of our CGI programs, I looked into the job logs of the
APACHEDFT jobs running on the system. In one of the logs, I saw
evidence that the CGI program had ran and returned the page, even though
I never actually saw the page.

We'll try restarting the update process tomorrow after the cache battery
is updated.

But for the life of me I don't understand how it would make that big of
a difference in the operation of a single web server instance.
