I only use WDSc for RPG programs. I could, for the most part, get them keyed faster in SEU. But I am of the opinion that I need to learn this paradigm (ouch, I said it again) for the long haul. Everyday I pick up new clues (mostly from this list, partly from just pushing buttons to see what'll happen).
That's, also, why all new code here is RPG IV, at least, and adding new concepts and techniques in ILE RPG as I go along.
Besides, learning new stuff everyday is what makes this a fun job. * Jerry C. Adams *iSeries Programmer/Analyst B&W Wholesale Distributors, Inc.* * voice 615.995.7024 fax 615.995.1201 email jerry@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx <mailto:jerry@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Rick.Chevalier@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx wrote:
Along with all the things Eric mentioned, I would add the debugger. Way better than the green screen debug. Service entry points are awesome. You will find people like it for different reasons. Personally, I don't use code complete and I really don't like automatic syntax checking. I find both annoying. Others on the list like them a lot and would miss them sorely if they were to disappear. Just a matter of different development styles. Which, by the way, may be the biggest advantage of WDSc. It is highly customizable so everyone can configure it to be the most efficient working environment for them. I like being able to work offline. I also like the simple things like colorized source, bigger editing window (less paging up/down/right/left), and the verifier.... If you have change management in your shop, there are most likely plugins for WDSCi that can really make your job a breeze. Best of luck....
