> As for the RPG question, IMHO, storing your RPG in stream files and a generic version control system isn't really viable for the reasons you alluded to. Subversion doesn't really do anything to change the equation. But with the ability to compile RPG programs from the IFS this now becomes an interesting tool. Check out the SRCSTMF option on the CRTBNDRPG command. My problem before was that I couldn't get CVS running on the iSeries, but if Subversion gets rid of that limitation I may be good to go! :-) Aaron Bartell -----Original Message----- From: wdsci-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:wdsci-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Mark Phippard Sent: Tuesday, May 03, 2005 3:16 PM To: Websphere Development Studio Client for iSeries Subject: RE: [WDSCI-L] Subversion and WDSC wdsci-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx wrote on 05/03/2005 03:56:26 PM: > What are people using this for? I think (hope) what has sparked the interest is that we have ported the Subversion server so that it can run on OS/400 and made that port available for free under an open source license agreement. See: http://www.softlanding.com/subversion/index.htm As for the RPG question, IMHO, storing your RPG in stream files and a generic version control system isn't really viable for the reasons you alluded to. Subversion doesn't really do anything to change the equation. This is more about not needing to setup a Linux or Windows server just so that you can run a tool like CVS. Of course it is just a huge bonus that Subversion is such a great tool.
