If WDSC crashes you might try going to the workspace. I haven't had problems with it for probably a year now but when I did many time my updated source was in the workspace and I just needed to import or copy/paste it into WDSc. I use ctrl-s to save changes frequently. This came from losing too much stuff in Word documents where I also use ctrl-s frequently to be sure my work is saved.
