I agree, for a long time, I was working with filters and it is painful especially when you want to open up othe lib/sources. The table view really comes handy. My experience is that most programmers see the RSE View, recognize the Windows Explore analogy, and get caught in the trap of thinking that's the only or best way to access members. You can use filters for projects, etc and Table View for quick member access. Since we use software for most of our projects and optionally link to iSeries Projects, we probably would use iSeries Table view more than filters. I used to use filters to get to members not on the project. Once I found out about iSeries Table view, I cannot remember the last time I opened a filter. But, someone who stores projects as filters would use that more and would be vice versa. Thanks for pointing that out. I just never really got on the filter bandwagon since it was so slow for listing lots of members. I think it can be a very valuable tool when put to the right use. I at least want to make it known that there is more than one way to copy the member. It is up to the programmer to decide which way they like. Craig Strong ** Kelly wrote: Filters can be a great way to organize access to members over periods of time. For example, I have a filter that holds all source members (COBOL, CL, DDS, and even a couple of text files) related to a system that transmits information from our ERP system to a particular business partner. I use the filter to keep everything related to that project in one place. Now, when I need to maintain that system, I just click on the filter and everything is at hand. I now have several such filters that hold all source related to a project. I've started using filter pools to organize these into groups (e.g., project filters involving data exchanges with business partners, project filters for internal reports, and so forth). I also use iSeries Table view when I need to quickly pull up source members for which I don't have a filter. It's by no means an either-or proposition. A good combination of filters and iSeries Table View can be more effective than using either one alone. Anyway, that's why I use filters.
