Hmmm.

Well, while I continue to research the cheapest way to upgrade to Pro
(you'd think XP Home -> XP Pro would be less than, say, WinME -> XP Pro,
wouldn't you?), I'll also try WDSC on XP Home and let you all know what
happens.  While I wouldn't use XP Home at work, some of us would like to
save $200 on our home systems.
