Joe, I think the loading and unloading of classes, and their dependencies, - Static variables - Static initializers - Native methods is dependent on the classloader that loaded it. "If you are using a classloader other than the bootstrap loader (the normal one), and you remove all references to that classloader, then it will get garbage collected. At that time any classes that it had caused to be loaded will be unloaded. Any class that is loaded by the bootstrap classloader will NEVER be unloaded." That would lead me to think that any class, and hence static initializers loaded by a specific web application classloader, will be unloaded when any references to that classloader are removed. Presumably stopping a web application does this. cheers Colin.W ----- Original Message ----- From: "Joe Pluta" <joepluta@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: "'Websphere Development Studio Client for iSeries'" <wdsci-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, June 24, 2004 1:43 PM Subject: RE: [WDSCI-L] Now for something completely different... > > From: colin williams > > > > Joe, > > > > good question, > > off the top of my head, I would think that the apps dont run in their > own > > jvm as the jvm options are set at the appserver level, > > and i think garbage collection occurs at the appserver level > > > > Is there a specific problem that raised this question? > > More a question than a problem at this point, Colin.
