There's not much to tell at this point.  I've basically been able to
modify a couple of templates by cutting and pasting snippets of code and
making a few guesses as to the syntax of some of the methods.  I'm
serious when I say the documentation is non-existent, and so you really
do have to use some guesswork.

I suggest looking at the generated templates to see how they function.
Whenever you add a navigation bar, you will get a copy of the template
in your project (something like nav_side.html).  That's where you look
for the code.  I hope to have a little better documentation at some
point in the future.
