Dave,

Here are just some thoughts and ideas.

The basic concept in RSE is that you create filters for this things you
want to see. There are several different types of filters you can create.

1) You can create a member filter that shows you just the members in one
or more source files.

2) You can create an object filter, and select certain object types. For
example, type *FILE and attribute PF-SRC will show just the source files
in a library. This would let you drill down to the members and easily
switch between the member types.

3) You can right-click on a filter and choose show in table. This gives
you a PDM-like ability to navigate. You can double-click on a source file
to see members, and then use the back button or up arrow to go back a
level.

I prefer to create several small targeted filters for performance. But
you can combine as many filter string as you want in one filter. For
example, using #1 as an example, a single member filter could pull members
from multiple source files in different libraries by specifying multiple
filter strings.

There are also a lot of advanced features I have not tried. You can
create "filter pools" and then swap them in and out as needed. This
sounds like it would be useful if you work on different applications that
have different libraries. You could store the filters in different pools
and just use the ones you needed at this moment.

The online help is pretty good. Open up the "Development Studio Client
for iSeries" book and navigate to "Native iSeries applications: accessing
and editing". The "Tasks" grouping has the best information.
