The inventory calendar is the first domino to fall when you begin the month-end
closing process...
All inventory transactions after the Inventory calendar is incremented should
fall within the newly opened inventory period...

I guess I'm confused about how you are getting inventory movements recorded in
the prior period...

You may have a procedural problem more than a software problem...

Please provide more detail...

Specify version and service pack too...

Could you have mods that affect this as well...???
