IBM can set the serial number to be the same as your first machine. They do this in cases of severe hardware failure. What you may want to consider, assuming the machine will only be used as a disaster recovery backup, is doing your backups without regards to the serial number. In the event of a failure, IBM can change the number, and have you back up relatively quickly... That way you do not have to go through the hassles of trying to convince Geac & your other Software Providers to give additional Authorization Codes... And IBM will be more willing to change the serial number because of the problems with the first machine. -----Original Message----- From: GManoovaloo@ibl.intnet.mu [mailto:GManoovaloo@ibl.intnet.mu] Sent: Tuesday, December 04, 2001 1:26 AM To: jbausers-l@midrange.com Subject: JBA ML - Backup machine auth code As part of our IT deployment, we are planning to have a second machine in our network, at another site which will provide the Group with a fall-back in the case of a major disaster. This machine will be of the same configuration than the 'live' machine, in terms of Ram, disk, CPU type, but will obviously have a different serial number. It will kept up-to-date with the data backup, and used only in the case of a major breakdown, or disaster on the live system, such as fire or total destruction of our production site. For those who have been through this or have started investigating , what arrangements have you been able to reach with GEAC for authorisation codes ? or else what is your undestanding of their position on that question ?
