Tom,
There might be an option with catchweight, but I would guess you would still 
have to do modifications.  As I recall catchweight had something to do with 
food, like turkeys.  But I don't think it will do what you are asking.  I have 
never heard of anyone using the stock vs sale unit of measure sucesssfully.
