Be very sure you want to do this. I just spent 4 full days analysis and this Sunday converting back to a single UoM for my company.
One of the keys to keep in mind is that JBA tracks everything in the "Stock" UoM.
The advantages are obvious, but, the disadvantages are as follows:
- Inventory Counts and Inventory Adjustments being counted in the (wrong) Purchase UoM instead of the Stock UoM
- Conversion Changes: i.e. Socks suddenly change from 12 pair cartons to 10 pair.
- Purchase Orders can be created and received in EITHER Purchase or Stock UoM.
- Receipts can be in EITHER Purchase or Stock UoM.
The last two issues may not seem important, but we found many cases of the Stock UoM being used in place of the correct "Purchase" UoM. How can anyone control this (without a MOD)!
As always, you should research this issue thoroughly within you own test company and decide for yourself on the best course of action.
Best of Luck.
Subject: Unit of Measure
Hi Everyone,
Could someone give me some help in handling a Unit of Measure problem we are
having with socks. Our customers would like to buy and receive our socks in
3-pair-packs. Our distribution people would like to inventory and pick in
12-pair-cartons. Does anyone use the conversion options? We believe the major
impact is on invoicing and packing slips where the converted UOM must be clearly
stated. Does that make sense?
Any help you can give will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Tom
