Art,
We are also a multiple warehouse distributor. Do you know roughly how many
parts #'s you are forecasting as a company and also do you have a guess as
to how many part#'s each person is responsible for maintaining. Currently
we are figuring that we would probably be forecasting at least 6000 part#'s
as a company with each person responsible for maintaining 300-400 part#'s.
Geac seems to feel that this would be much to cumbersome to maintain unless
we forecasted by family. We are trying to get a feel as to how much work
is involved in maintaining the forecast by item.
Thanks,
Kathy Yales

We are getting ready to start using forecasting. Geac
is
suggesting that
we forecast by families. Conceptually that sounds
great for
a
manufacturer, but we are a distributor. I'm not so
sure
that this is will
be the best way for us to forecast. I would love to
hear
from any
distributors who are currently using forecasting. Are
you
forecasting by
families or by item? If you are forecasting by
families, how
did you break
down your parts into separate families? Any
information
would be great!
Thanks,
