  • Subject: Introduction of MDI to JBA mailing list

As a matter of introduction,

MDI provides outsourced customer service, inventory control, billing,
logistics, quality management, contract management and IT services to
manufacturers in the medical industry. We've been live on JBA 3.5.0
financials since 11/97 and distribution/warehousing since 11/98 with about
60 users on an AS/400 Model 620. We've used System 21 Explorer from the
very beginning. We use Vertex AS/400 sales tax compliance system with the
JBA interface and Quantum returns PC software. We use Nutech Viewpoint for
scanning of bar-codes in the warehouse and we're implementing Varsity
logistics for parcel shipping label automation. We are implementing JBA
E.Supply B-to-B web order entry software. We've also written a large number
of web based reports to give our customers (medical manufacturers)
information about their inventory levels and transaction history and sales
details of their products to end users (hospitals, pharmacies, etc.). We've
agreed to a project with JBA to implement @ctive Work Management for a few
of our business functions. We've customized JBA very heavily and we've also
written a number of additional modules using GeneXus that access JBA files.
We've also written a number of reports with IBM DB2 Query Manager, JBA/IQ
Objects and Microsoft Access. We're in the midst of updating our software
to version 3.5.2b. We originally used a large number of contractors to do
our JBA mods and we now do everything in-house.

I post regularly to this mail list and I'm rather amazed and the general
lack of activity compared to other ERP vendors with comparable numbers of
users. I would read with great interest information about how other
companies have used JBA to improve their business and would be happy to
answer questions via the mail list or through private e-mail about how we've
used JBA.

Overall we're happy with JBA and plan to use System 21 for many more years.
We are a little concerned about some of the recent Geac policy changes
(particularly concerning availability of source code, additional user
charges for platform changes and some of what I've heard about software
maintenance agreements).

Our controller, Michelle Menting, is Vice President of the Geac/JBA
Financial Users Group.
