I think part of the push for browser apps comes from users who grew up
using PC's instead of adding machines and 3270/5250's. It's decimal points
and field exits and tabbing and limited mouse functionality that makes 5250
distasteful for some users.

I find SDA to be fast and reliable and my screens have high functionality.
But the 132x27 limitation gets under my skin and having a broad palette of
colors and field attributes would be enormously helpful. I see
browser-based apps as the direction the market is going but there's a
non-trivial learning curve and a high entrance cost erected by vendors.

Then there's the other question: is the i the right platform? The
database and hardware reliability are key factors in maintaining the
course. But there are plenty of other cloud- and locally-based platform
options, some of which have attractive features. There are no great
decisions here, only the least bad.

Sigh.

But the users and the " decisions makers" like better the web.
Once a user tries a web application he dos not what to go back to the
green
screen.
That heavily depends on the type of user. What might be true for the
users you know is quite different for most users I know. "My" users are
mostly IT guys with a tendency towards being nerds.

I agree with you, Patrik - at my previous position, all the main apps
were on 5250. One fellow, who had used the system for maybe decades,
wanted nothing to do with a web version. That web version was a screen
scraper, so not optimized. But he found 5250 very efficient and suggests
others should use it.
