I have found that the decision makers, especially the ones that don't use
the system a lot, perceive green screen as old and therefore dismiss the
purchase of a solution based on that assumption.

I also kick myself for having my "head in the sand" as to speak expecting
IBM to provide a development tool that would allow the 5250 data stream to
provide both 5250 and HTML for sake of a better description - I know
net, data does provide that in a way.

I also for many years thought the fat client was the better option to web
browser, well that was 20+ years ago.

We started slowly with PHP and have progressed steadily improving the
processes but still have a huge way to go and many learning curves to
still conquer but we are not duplicating the green screen environment, we
are using the page estate and html/JS functions to improve the
application.

Anyway that is my $0.02 worth.

Cheers

Subject: Re: Tool to Modernize IBMi Screens into GUI

It's been 25 years plus since CGI programming has been a viable option.
And it still is. Even longer since ILE has been available to try to
encapsulate functions.

The other side of the coin is, to me at least, is that users used to the
"fast entry" of green screens wouldn't want a web update, but would
eventually use it after the initial shock. I know a lot of the
applications I use for business are all web based now. At first I hated it
(and in some cases still do) but I grow to tolerate them.
