Worst of all, making EGL "yummy" to RPG developers for the development of graphical user interfaces. And I was learning it. What a waste of time.

Betreff: Re: Tool to Modernize IBMi Screens into GUI

Hi Brian,

IF (big IF) IBM /HAD/ set a clear strategic direction, imagine the cries of "foul" from the many business partners whose solutions - and revenue stream - would have been affected!

That's true - and the business partners are a substantial part of the IBM ecosystem.

"it is IBM's job to set the direction"? I don't disagree at all ... but I fear that boat sailed long ago. Maybe part of the problem is the community didn't get on board as the boat left port? Who knows ... we are where we are.

Well - you say the boat sailed ... but I would say, it isn't so. There was not "A boat" - there were several small canoes and maybe some life vests - but there wasn't a real boat.

I think the IBM i community could do something together. There are lots of talented people and IBM has created OARPG as a vector for a solution. But they never developed what should have come after OARPG - maybe the community should.

[Please forgive my comments. They provide nothing constructive to the discourse and I apologise in advance for interrupting. I'm just old and cynical 🙂]

Nothing to forgive - and sometimes cynism is our last resort.

Regards,
Daniel
