Well - that might not stop you and maybe me - but developing such a protocol and anything around that, might stop 99% of all IBM i developers.

We never wrote 5250 data stream manually - we relied on DSPF and the OS to handle that for us.

I mean - if there would be just one obvious and lightweight solution, it would be adopted be a lot of developers.
