Jon, thanks for confirming the old retired brain still works after 9 months of no coding... <grin>

Participating here keeps me young... I think!

True Roger.

The **Free only applies to the current member. Any /Copy (or /Include) reverts to fixed format _unless_ it too starts with **Free

I have a vague recollection that you *can* use O-Specs if they are brought in as a /copy or /include.

Can't verify that at the moment but just something I recall having had to use long ago.

I'm working with some old programs that are using some techniques I'm

I am adding a procedure to the first RPG program, so I need to
replace the O-specs. What I've tried so far (writing a record to
WK424R) is not working. Looking for suggestions.

You can't convert O specs to free form directly, as there is no analog.

Based on your post, I think it would be best to convert that program
described file to an external data structure ... either defined as a PF
or a data structure in a copy member.

You could then use that structure to write to the temp file.

Alternatively, you could just pass the structure as a parameter to the
other program.
